Pinton

BACK TO COLLECTION

The Brand

Since 1867, Pinton workshops have crafted extraordinary and prestigious tapestries, including the world’s largest, ‘Christ in Glory’ by Graham Sutherland for Coventry Cathedral. They have collaborated with renowned 20th-century artists like Charles Le Brun, Fernand Léger, Alexander Calder, and Pablo Picasso. Today, Pinton artisans work with contemporary designers and artists such as Etel Adnan, Maggi Hambling, Joe Tilson, and Beatriz Milhazes, continuing the tradition of Aubusson tapestry and contributing to its revival in contemporary art.

Pinton has elevated hand-tufted tapestries to the same status as traditional tapestries under the ‘Tapis d’Aubusson’ geographical indication. Known for their expertise in art, interior design, and luxury, the family-owned company has built a unique textile group. With the acquisition of the last Wilton tapestry factory in France, the Manufacture Royale d’Aubusson, the Jacquard weaving mill Tissage des Flandres, and a new hand-tufted tapestry factory in Creuse, Pinton is a benchmark of French textile expertise.

Awarded the ‘EPV’ label for its innovation and expertise, Pinton is committed to sustainable development, prioritizing local materials and short supply chains to support the local economy. The Pinton Group meets the high demands of the luxury goods industry and the needs of decorators, artists, and private clients, championing the philosophy ‘Made in France’.

As a supporter of crafts and creation since the 17th century, Mobilier National’s mission is to ensure the preservation and restoration of its unique collections, to perpetuate and pass down exceptional craftsmanship. As a major heritage site, the institution is also an important actor of contemporary creation and the promotion of French decorative arts. Mobilier national owns a collection of tens of thousands of furniture pieces and objects meant to furnish and decorate the official buildings of the Republic in France and abroad. More than three hundred and forty women and men work daily to maintain, practice or promote the institution’s excellent know-how, in Paris and throughout France. The Gobelins and Beauvais manufactories are dedicated to tapestry, the Savonnerie manufactory to rugs, and the Puy-en-Velay and Alençon workshops to lace. The Research and creation workshop (Atelier de Recherche et de Création – the ARC) promotes creation and contemporary design in France. Seven restoration workshops are in charge of various specialties of wood, metal and textile.

Definitely forward-looking, Mobilier National is one of the founding members of the Campus d’Excellence des métiers d’arts et du design – Paris, Gobelins manufactory, launched in 2020. Through its role, it bears witness to the vitality of artistic creation and contemporary design.

The Mobilier national is a public administrative institution attached to the Ministry of Culture.

Limited Edition Tapestries

Pinton and the Mobilier National have joined forces to create reproductions of carefully selected works. Woven from the sketches of the original tapestries, then adapted to a smaller format, these Aubusson tapestries will be limited to 8 products only.

As part of the Art de vivre à la française exhibition, Pinton and the Mobilier national are presenting Composition n°2, woven from an original Joan Miro design dating from 1966 and Ciel de France woven from an original Fernand Léger design dating from 1939.

The collaboration between the Mobilier National and Pinton is emblematic in two ways. First, it reflects the Mobilier National’s commitment to being present not only in the prominent institutions of the Republic but also wherever its exceptional productions are meant to shine. Second, it highlights an exceptional partnership with Pinton, a family business rooted in French heritage for five generations.

Labeled as “Living Heritage” (Patrimoine Vivant), Pinton is based in Felletin, in the Creuse region, where they weave Aubusson carpets and tapestries using expertise recognized by UNESCO. With a passion for tradition and innovation, Pinton has earned a global reputation in the contemporary art market.

Today, the Mobilier National has chosen to rely on Pinton’s centuries-old know-how to reinterpret iconic works with the full support of their rights holders. Produced in limited, numbered editions—no more than eight per series—these tapestries pay tribute to the great artists they represent, emphasizing their exceptional and precious nature. Each tapestry will proudly bear the prestigious labels of both the Mobilier National and Pinton, a mark of their extraordinary collaboration and a symbol of superior craftsmanship.

Serge Lesage

BACK TO COLLECTION

The Brand

Founded in 1984, Serge LESAGE became the first specialist in the manufacture of custom-made contemporary rugs. They established a design office dedicated to special projects and provided various online tools for color customization, accessible to all.

Serge LESAGE rugs are entirely handmade. They are the result of a deep cultural collaboration, where contemporary designs meets artisanal skill, respecting both traditional savoir-faire and environmental standards. Each collection tells a unique and beautiful story. Every rug is one-of-a-kind, reflecting the unique interpretation and craftsmanship of each person involved in its creation.

Traditional Techniques and High Quality Materials

All their rugs are meticulously handcrafted using traditional techniques such as hand-knotting, hand-weaving, and hand-tufting.

Hand-Knotted Rugs: This ancient technique, virtually unchanged for centuries, involves crafting rugs entirely by hand. This method ensures exceptional durability and beauty.

Hand-Woven Rugs: Similar to tapestry weaving, this process is performed on horizontal looms, allowing for a wide variety of designs and stunning creations.

Hand-Tufted Rugs: Created on a pre-drawn cotton canvas, this technique offers great design freedom. The weaver’s and carver’s skilled gestures impart unique beauty and character to each rug.

They exclusively use natural materials, including New Zealand wool, Tencel, and increasingly less viscose.
