Voltalis: Automation and Data Energy management for Buildings and Cities  

Voltalis is a European leader in automated demand response, helping residential and commercial buildings optimise electricity consumption while supporting a more stable, secure and low-carbon power system. Buildings account for 40% of final energy consumption and remain a major untapped source of flexibility as heating, cooling, EVs and solar power become increasingly electrified. 

Its technology connects and controls millions of electrical devices. When demand rises or renewable generation falls, Voltalis temporarily reduces consumption instead of relying on additional fossil-fuel generation. These adjustments are aggregated into a large-scale virtual power plant, providing flexibility to the grid, lowering system costs and facilitating renewable energy integration—without compromising users’ comfort.  

Since 2006, Voltalis has built a strong European platform: 80% EU market share, operations in ten countries, over 250 employees, 35 patents and around €270 million of project finance raised in 2023 and 2024. Its network includes approximately 1,7 million connected devices across 300,000 sites, representing a 2 GW virtual power plant, with a target of over 20 GW by 2030.  

Voltalis automates intelligent energy management for buildings and cities. Batteries, EV chargers, heat pumps, electric heaters, air conditioners — all connected to its Virtual Power Plant, which automatically modulates consumption in real time to support the grid. The result: energy savings and, in some cases, additional revenue for clients through flexibility valorisation on energy markets. 

Since 2006, Voltalis has been pioneering intelligent energy management, helping buildings consume smarter rather than produce more. In 2025, its technology saved 37,174,000 kWh — equivalent to 1,922 trips around the world by car — and cuts CO₂ emissions by up to 70% per equipped building. Despite strong growth, Voltalis reduced its carbon footprint per employee by 26% in 2024. Labelled Solar Impulse and French Tech 120 member, Voltalis is making flexibility a cornerstone of the energy transition. 

From football clubs to universities, hotels to social housing, Voltalis serves a wide range of clients across Europe. In the UK: Bolton Wanderers FC, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, University of Westminster – Harrow Campus, and YMCA Derbyshire. In France, among 300,000+ clients: public buildings in major cities like Lyon, hotel groups such as Brit Hôtel and Garden City (+70 000 rooms equipped), McDonald’s outlets, student residences and social housing providers.
