Wattway is a French innovation patented after 5 years of research by Colas, a world leader in transport infrastructure, and INES, the French National Institute for Solar Energy. It is the world’s first trafficable photovoltaic pavement that supplies electricity from clean, renewable solar energy while allowing vehicles to travel on it.
Wattway is one of the solutions for the local production of renewable energy and meets the global challenge of the energy transition. The aim is to pool traffic spaces to produce renewable energy.
Wattway is available in two offers, Wattway Pack and Wattway Plus.
Wattway Pack is a solution of a few photovoltaic panels that allows the energy autonomy of roadside equipment such as charging docks for bicycles or electric scooters, surveillance cameras, public lighting and pedestrian crossing security.
Wattway Plus is installed on the roadway over several hundred to thousands of square meters. The energy produced allows self-consumption by the adjacent building without energy storage. Wattway Plus is particularly suitable in geographical areas where space is constrained.
Wattway solutions are developing in France and internationally with more than 100 existing sites.
Wattway installed on the Dutch cycle paths: these large sites aim to produce renewable electricity through photovoltaic coating, while limiting the artificialization of the soil and contributing to the supply of the Dutch electricity network.
Transport infrastructure provides an unexploited land reserve to produce renewable energy: parking, sidewalks, bike paths, forecourts, sea pontoons. Wattway offers an ideal compromise between self-consumption and architectural, landscape integration.
