about us :
Since 1992, Futerro has been a pioneer and world leader in bioplastics with the development and production of Poly-Lactic Acid. PLA is a well-recognized biopolymer able to replace a large number of traditional petro-based plastics used in applications such as Thermoforming, fibers and non-woven, Film and coating, Injection molding, Bottles, rotomolding, 3D-Printing.
PLA can offer a wide variety of advantages compared to existing fossil-based plastics: Biobased, recyclable, and compostable with a low-carbon footprint and good properties making it suitable for many existing applications.
Futerro’s production capacities are currently located in Asia with an annual production capacity of 100.000 T per annum, making it the second world’s largest PLA producer. Besides its activities in China, Futerro is investing in France to build a fully integrated biorefinery covering the whole PLA life cycle by 2027 : (1) Starting from wheat sugar to Lactic Acid, (2) Polymerizing Lactic Acid into FUTERRO’S PLA and (3) offering the European’s first chemical recycling plant of PLA using the patented LOOPLA® technology.

FUTERRO’S PLA covers several grades for all existing applications. PLA is a drop-in solution for many applications like: Transparent packaging, films, coating, fibers and non-woven applications, toys, and many more.

Besides pure PLA production, FUTERRO has developed and patented a chemical recycling technology called LOOPLA®. LOOPLA® can handle pure and non-pure PLA wastes (inc. pollutants, additives, etc).
Thanks to LOOPLA, the monomer (lactic acid) can be recovered to be repolymerized in a new virgin PLA, keeping the exact same properties and certifications (e.g., food contact) as the one produced from renewable raw materials. As such, PLA has a versatile end-of-life option, covering all the applications. It is one of the most circular materials currently available on the market.

FUTERRO’S PLA® is considered a Bio-RENEW-able polymer. Made from renewable carbon, recyclable through mechanical and chemical recycling, industrially compostable, and with a low-carbon footprint. Today, it is one of the most trustable and suitable bio-based alternatives to fossil-based polymers.
