Maison Marc is a family affair, named for Marc Jeannequin whose grandson, Henri, now runs the company. In 1952, Marc began to grow gherkins which he pickled in jars using his wife’s recipes.
His son, Florent, took over the farm in 1975 and grew the business, becoming a long-term supplier to Amora-Maille until 2004, when the group relocated production to India, marking the end of the line most French gherkin producers. Florent, however, didn’t give up and continued with to grow local produce in France, despite being the country’s last producer!
Florent’s son Henri took over in 2012, and just like his father, believes there’s a place on the market for premium cornichons that are made in France. Henri jumped in feet first, even building a Maison Marc canning factory, and choosing the company’s name in homage to his grandfather.
