Spartha Medical is a spin-off from INSERM UMR1121, a public research institute with more than 20 years of experience in coating development. The company’s core technologies are patented-based inventions from two European projects (IMMODGEL and PANBioRA) that started in 2013. To prevent bacterial colonization on medical devices, whose surfaces serve as a substrate for the proliferation of bacteria, SPARTHA Medical is developing a personalized antimicrobial coating consisting of polyelectrolytes (electrically charged molecules). PAR/HA has been the subject of the first proof of concept, and the technology has been patented. Thus, Spartha Medical is deploying R&D efforts to develop coatings with other biopolymers to optimize the product according to use and demand. The coating has an on-contact antimicrobial effect against several Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, which exhibits good biocompatibility.
