Sheikh Soud Khalifa Al-Thani, Director of Green Development and Environmental Sustainability at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change
Sheikh Soud Khalifa Al-Thani, Ph.D. is a sustainability executive with over 18 years of experience in the areas of built environment, carbon management and climate change in Qatar. He is currently the Director of Green Development and Environmental Sustainability at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and at Qatar Foundation’s Earthna he is the Director of Climate Change and Carbon Management. Dr. Soud also works with universities to advance sustainability education and research through industry-academia partnerships.
He led multiple awareness campaigns, conferences, and specialized seminars for industry experts, entrepreneurs, and professionals to promote sustainability and reduce risks of climate change. He continues to lead strategic collaboration initiatives with local and international organizations, most notably the annual “Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change.”
Prior to joining Earthna/Qatar Foundation, he held various positions focused on the environment at the Amiri Diwan’s Private Engineering Office, and later at ASTAD Engineering Consultancy and Project Management Company. During that time, Dr. Soud oversaw urban development projects in sectors like housing, energy, tourism, and sports.
He holds a Ph.D. in Sustainable Development from HBKU, and from Oxford Brookes University in the UK he has a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a Master of Science in Sustainability.
