Caroline Besse

BACK TO COLLECTION

The Brand

Caroline offers a hybrid art form, bridging the gap between gallery pieces and bespoke creations, where each work is a one-of-a-kind, entirely handmade composition. Through meticulous layering techniques, she achieves subtle interactions with light, giving her pieces a dynamic, ever-changing presence. Caroline’s expertise extends to custom projects for architects and designers, where she creates site-specific artworks that seamlessly integrate into their surroundings.

Whether developing bespoke murals, large-scale installations, or textile-based compositions, each project is carefully conceived in dialogue with the space. To deepen the connection between her work and its environment, she offers the option of sourcing minerals locally, as seen in her project for Van Cleef & Arpels in New York, where sand from the Hamptons was incorporated into the design. For over 20 years, she has remained committed to an eco-friendly, artisanal approach, exclusively using traditional techniques and natural materials. Her dedication to excellence and innovation in contemporary craftsmanship was recognized with the Grand Prize for Creation in Arts & Crafts from the City of Paris in 2022.

Chromatic Depth & Rich Textures

Caroline Besse combines exceptional materials— working with rare pigments derived from gems and minerals such as lapis lazuli, malachite, tiger’s eye, and jade— with a mastery of traditional techniques to create unique, entirely handmade artworks. Her one-of-a kind designs balance light, texture, and depth, attracting prestigious clients in luxury, architecture, and high-end jewelry, including bespoke projects for Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Toile de Laque by Atelier Maury

BACK TO COLLECTION

The Brand

Atelier Maury is specialized in gilded wood and polychrome decor and has been involved in many
restoration and design projects. Their world-renowned expertise is based on the mastery of all traditional gilding and polychromy techniques: gilding techniques (tempera, mixtion and gelatin gilding, eglomized glass), decorative painting (glue paint, oil glazes, varnishes, etc.), faux materials (faux wood, faux marble, faux tortoiseshell, etc.).

One of their best-known innovations is Toile de Laque, a patented product, mastered and manufactured exclusively by Atelier Maury in Paris. The initial objective was to meet a demand for a lacquered effect without the need for heavy on-site installations. Atelier Maury created a painted and varnished canvas, imitating the visual and tactile effect of traditional lacquer, while remaining flexible enough to be rolled and shipped.

A Widely Acclaimed Technique

“Toile de Laque” is now a well-known and recognized technique amongst professionals and the general public. This new coating can be used on both walls and furniture. It can be applied to any surface: concrete, plaster, wood, plastic, lab, metal … It adapts to both curved and flat surfaces and can be stretched on frames or mounted on panels. For each project, colors are custom-made from natural ingredients to achieve the desired results.
